Northern Kentucky picked up an 88-85 double overtime victory at Northern Illinois Friday night. A back and forth second half saw the Norse up 65-60 with 1:31 to play. The Huskies (1-1) tied it at 65-65 with 14 seconds left in regulation on a three-pointer by Dante Thorpe. It was the Norse who had to play catch-up in the first overtime when Drew McDonald’s layup with 15 seconds left tied the game at 75-75 and sent the game to a second overtime. The Norse (2-0) took command in the second OT scoring the first six points and then holding on for the win.
Drew McDonald had a double-double and led all scorers with 28 points and 14 rebounds. Dantez Walton added 16 points and nine rebounds while Zaynah Robinson had 13 points, all in overtime. Levi Bradley had 25 points and Dante Thorpe 24 to lead the Huskies.
Northern Kentucky opened its 2018-19 campaign with a 102-38 pasting of Wilmington College Tuesday night at BB&T Arena. NKU dominated in all aspects shooting 59% from the floor, holding Wilmington to 22% shooting and outrebounding the Quakers 58-24. Five Norse scored in double figures. Jalen Tate and Drew McDonald led the way with 17 and 14 points respectively.
NKU rolled to an 84-47 exhibition game win over Thomas More Tuesday night at BB&T Arena. The Norse shot a sizzling 66% from the field. Five NKU players finished in double figures, Drew McDonald led the way with 14 points. NKU begins its 2018-19 campaign for real Tuesday, November 6th when the Norse hosts Wilmington College.
