Horizon League Quarterfinals Recap: Northern Kentucky 82, Wright St. 77

A second-half scoring explosion propelled Northern Kentucky to an 82-77 win over Wright St. in the Horizon League Quarterfinals Sunday night at Joe Louis Arena. Leading 29-27 at half, the Norse put up 53 points in the second half. With 12:24 left to play, a Dantez Walton layup put the Norse up 42-38. That started a run of 14 straight made field goal attempts that put Northern Kentucky (22-10) up 75-65 with 2:53 to play. Carson Williams led four Norse in double figures with 17 points. Lavone Holland II added 16 points and 9 assists. Grant Benzinger led a game effort for the Raiders (20-12) with 29 points including six second-half threes.

With other upsets in the Horizon League tourney, NKU is the highest seed remaining in the semifinals. The Norse draw Youngstown St. who knocked off top seed Oakland on Saturday. The two teams split their two regular season games.
