John Brannen Hired as NKU Head Basketball Coach

Alabama assistant John Brannen became the fifth men’s basketball head coach at Northern Kentucky in a press conference at the Bank of Kentucky Center Tuesday afternoon. A Covington native, he spent the last 6 seasons serving under Anthony Grant at Alabama. Prior to that, he was on Grant’s staff at VCU from 2007-09.

Brannen started his collegiate playing career at Morehead St. before transferring to Marshall after his sophomore season. At Marshall, he led the Southern Conference in scoring at 20.9 points per game his senior season (1996-97) and was a Rhodes Scholar finalist. He began his coaching career at College of Charleston and did stints at Eastern Kentucky and St. Bonaventure before hooking up with Grant at VCU.
