Game 6 Recap: Memphis 76, Northern Kentucky 74

Northern Kentucky built a 16-point first-half lead but it was not enough as Memphis claimed a 76-74 win Saturday night at the FedExForum. The Norse (4-2)  went 15-of-31 (48.4%) from the floor in the first half, held Memphis to 12-of-32 (37.5%) shooting and held a 40-31 halftime lead.

It was a different story in the second half as the Tigers (3-1) would shoot 62.5% (14-for-25 from the floor). They used an 8-0 run midway through the half to take a 59-58 lead with 8:58 to play. The Memphis lead got to as much as eight in the half, but the Norse cut the lead to 75-74 with 25 seconds left on Jordan Garnett’s three-pointer. After the Tigers missed two free throws, Lavone Holland II had a layup attempt blocked. The Norse fouled with five seconds left, and Jamal Johnson converted one of his two free throws to bring the score to 76-74. Holland had one last look at three-pointer as time expired, but couldn’t find the bottom of the net. Holland finished with 19 points, Garnett 15 and Drew McDonald 10. Jimario Rivers had 17 points to lead four Memphis players in double figures.
