Game 15 Recap: Northern Kentucky 87, Oakland 83
Northern Kentucky rallied in the second half for an 87-83 win at preseason conference favorite Oakland Friday night in front of a national ESPN2 TV audience. It was the first home loss of the season for the Grizzlies (9-7, 1-2 Horizon) and the first road win for the Norse (10-5, 3-0).
Trailing 47-41 at the break, NKU hit 7 of its first 8 shots after intermission to take a 57-52 lead. That lead grew to 73-64 with 8:45 left. But the Norse would score just two free throws in the next 6 minutes and Oakland pulled to within 75-74 with 3:16 to play. Jalen Tate countered with two straight driving baskets and NKU went 6-for-6 from the free throw line late to seal the win. Carson Williams had 21 points and Lavone Holland II 19, including his 1,000th career point, to lead the Norse. Kendrick Nunn finished with 24, Martez Walker 19 and Jalen Hayes 17 for OU. All three logged 40 minutes of game action.
